Door-to-Door Roofing Sales Jobs

Storm chasing and retail roofing. Inspect, find damage, get the claim approved, and earn a percentage of the job.

Door-to-door roofing reps canvass neighborhoods after storms or in older housing stock, offer free roof inspections, and help homeowners file insurance claims or buy a replacement roof outright. Commissions are a percentage of the job, which makes roofing one of the best-paying door-to-door industries per sale.

What a day looks like

  1. Canvass a neighborhood hit by hail or wind, or a subdivision with aging roofs.
  2. Offer a free inspection and get on the roof (or fly a drone) to document damage.
  3. Walk the homeowner through the insurance claim or a retail quote.
  4. Meet the adjuster, get the claim approved, and hand off to production.

How roofing reps get paid

Usually a percentage of the total job, paid when the roof is built and the homeowner pays. Some storm companies pay a split of profit instead. Ask how long from signed contract to paycheck, because insurance claims can take 30-90 days.

Roofing sales questions

Do roofing reps have to get on the roof?

Most companies expect it. Some use drones, and canvasser-only roles just set inspections for a rep who climbs. Be honest about this on your application so you are only introduced to roles that fit.

What is storm restoration sales?

Door-to-door sales in neighborhoods hit by hail or wind. Reps find damaged roofs, help homeowners file insurance claims, and the company replaces the roof. Teams often travel to wherever the last storm hit.

Can a roofing rep offer to cover the insurance deductible?

No. Several storm states, Texas and Colorado among them, make it illegal for a contractor to waive, pay or rebate the homeowner's deductible. A company that tells you to offer it is putting the homeowner and you at risk.

How much do door-to-door roofing reps make?

It depends on the market, the storm year and the commission structure, so any single number you see online is a guess. Most companies pay a percentage of each completed job, released when the roof is built and paid for. Ask any company you interview with what a middle-of-the-pack rep on their team earned last year and how long claims take to pay.
