What is a canvasser in door-to-door sales?
Canvasser: A canvasser goes door to door to start conversations and collect leads or appointments, not to close sales. In home improvement the word means the same job as a setter.
Canvassers work for window, siding, roofing, HVAC and gutter companies, usually in the neighborhoods around a current job site. They offer a free inspection or estimate and book it. A sales consultant handles the rest.
Canvassing roles more often pay an hourly base plus bonuses and are a common first sales job. The word is also used for political and non-profit door knocking, which the law treats differently from commercial sales.
