What is an EPC in solar sales?

EPC: EPC stands for engineering, procurement and construction: the company that designs, permits and installs the solar system. Sales dealers sell the project and hand it to an EPC to build.

Some solar companies sell and install with their own crews. Others split the work: a sales organization finds the customers and an EPC does everything after the signature. A dealer may work with several EPCs in different states.

The EPC decides much of what a rep cares about: the redline, the install timeline, the quality of the work and when milestone payments are released. A fast, reliable installer is worth more to your income than a slightly better rate with a slow one.

Ask before you sign
