What is net metering in solar?
Net metering: Net metering is a utility billing arrangement that credits a solar home for the extra electricity it sends to the grid. The credits offset power the home draws at night or on cloudy days.
Net metering rules are set by states and utilities, not nationally, and they change. Some areas credit exported power at the full retail rate; others have moved to plans that pay less for exports, which makes batteries more important to the savings.
For a rep this is the core of an honest savings conversation. What a customer saves depends on their utility's current export rules, so a claim that was true in one territory can be false in the next. Learn the rule for each utility you sell in before quoting savings.
