D2D glossary / How reps get paid

What is an override in door-to-door sales?

Override: An override is commission a manager or recruiter earns on the sales of the reps under them, paid on top of what those reps earn. It is how team leads and managers are paid for building a team.

When a rep you recruited or manage closes a deal, the company pays you a small amount on that sale as an override. Overrides are why experienced reps recruit: a manager with a productive team can earn more from overrides than from personal sales.

For a new rep, overrides explain the structure you are joining. The person recruiting you usually earns on your production, which is a fair arrangement when they also train you. It is worth knowing whether your own commission rate is reduced to fund the layers above you.
