Door-to-door sales vs. business-to-business field sales

Short answer: Both jobs are done on foot without an appointment. A door-to-door rep sells to households at home, mostly in the late afternoon and evening. A business-to-business field rep walks into shops, restaurants and offices during business hours and sells things a business buys, such as payment processing, business internet or waste service. The household sale is usually decided in one visit. The business sale often takes several visits to reach the owner. Knock Door to Door recruits for residential roles; business field sales is nearby work with a different day.

How reps move between the two

Reps move in both directions. Door-to-door reps bring speed and comfort with rejection; in a business they have to slow down, get past the front counter politely and come back on the owner's schedule. Business reps moving to residential work have to get used to one-visit decisions and evening hours.

Before taking a business field sales job, ask the same questions you would ask a door-to-door company: who the contracting company is, when commission is paid, what happens when an account cancels, and whether any pay over time continues if you leave. The checklist in our company vetting guide applies to both.

Questions

Is B2B sales easier than door-to-door sales?

It is different work more than easier work. Business owners are approached by salespeople constantly and are hard to reach, so a business rep makes fewer presentations per day and follows up more. A door-to-door rep gets more conversations and more immediate answers, most of them no.

Does the three-day right to cancel apply to sales made to a business?

Generally not. The FTC Cooling-Off Rule covers goods and services bought primarily for personal, family or household purposes. A business buying for its own operations is outside that definition, so the contract terms control. State law can add other protections.

Does Knock Door to Door place B2B field sales reps?

Our application and matching are built for residential door-to-door sales. If you sell to businesses and want to move to residential work, apply and tell us what you sold; the experience counts.
