What is turf in door-to-door sales?
Turf: Turf is the area a rep or a team is assigned to knock: a set of streets, a neighborhood or a mapped zone. Managers assign it so reps do not knock the same doors and every street gets worked.
Turf is usually handed out through a canvassing app that shows each home, who knocked it and what happened. Fresh turf has not been worked recently; burned turf has been knocked many times in a short period.
Turf quality affects results, and so does how you work it. Reps who knock every door, note who was not home and return at a different time of day get more from the same streets than reps who skim for easy houses.
Ask before you sign
How is turf assigned, and how often has this area been knocked this year?
