What is a door approach in door-to-door sales?

Door approach: The door approach is the first ten to thirty seconds at a door: where you stand, your first sentence and the reason you give for being there. It decides whether a conversation happens at all.

A good approach is short and calm. Step back from the door after knocking, say who you are and why you are on the street, and give the homeowner one simple reason to keep listening. New reps are taught a company approach word for word, then adjust it to their own voice.

The approach is not the pitch. Its only job is to earn the next minute. Most of the skill in door-to-door sales is here, which is why companies train it before product knowledge.
